Updates from leading statewide regulatory initiatives - Colorado
The last few years have seen the first successful statewide initiatives to regulate the adult use of psychedelic substances in the country: Oregon’s Psilocybin Services Act and Colorado’s Natural Medicine Health Act. While eleven other states so far in 2023 consider their own drug policy reforms, many are watching these programs closely. Join us to hear from leaders navigating the challenges of implementing these unprecedented initiatives.

Intellectual property: shadows and solutions
While naturally occurring psychedelics have been used by traditional cultures for generations, companies have recently begun to patent psychedelic therapies and compounds inspired by these traditions. This practice has raised questions about who benefits from the current system of intellectual property rights. Join us to hear from visionary thinkers imagining a system of IP that supports innovation and scientific progress while returning benefit and protecting public health.

Psychedelic policy in Mexico: context and a case study
Hear the details of a cutting-edge policy proposal straight from the source. Responding to the growing body of psychedelic research and the efforts of advocates for just drug policies, Mexican lawmakers and advocates are looking at ways to open access pathways for psychedelic use while protecting the Indigenous heritage, land, and practices where they come from. What is the nature and context of these efforts, and how do they intersect with and differ from similar approaches in the United States?

State Policy Reform: A Vision for Expanding Access to Psychedelics
Recent ballot victories in Oregon and Colorado provide a model for educating voters and approving laws that enable broad access to psychedelics. State legislatures are showing unprecedented openness and interest in psychedelic policy, too. We have a window of opportunity to make significant advances in the psychedelic policy reform movement and enable access to healing for millions of people across the United States. Since 2010, Graham Boyd has led winning efforts to reform drug policies in more than a dozen states and overseen opinion research projects on voter views about drug policy reform. In this presentation, Graham will discuss the current psychedelic policy landscape, how states have become laboratories of experimentation and learning, and why it's crucial that we continue propelling these efforts forward.

Do's and Don'ts of Filing a RFRA Lawsuit - Religious Use Claims and Defenses
Currently, religious groups like União do Vegetal and the Santo Daime are able to import, possess and use ayahuasca - which contains the Schedule I substance DMT - as an integral part of their religious practice. But the right to do so did not come easily. Join us to consider the complexities of religious and spiritual psychedelic use in the United States, and the steps a religious organization needs to take in order to successfully perfect a Religious Freedom and Restoration Act (RFRA) case.

From research to regulatory changes: Australia, the EU, and beyond
With a worldwide mental health crisis estimated to cost the global economy approximately two and a half trillion US dollars per year, policymakers and advocates across the world are responding to the need for new mental health treatments. Join us to hear a front-line update from the EU and from Australia, two places where policy changes are moving fast in some ways – and slow in others. How are these initiatives and legislative changes similar and different from what is happening in North America? How can we put those in context of other reform efforts?

Psychedelics, Exceptionalism, and Other Drugs
I am very much a psychedelic (and cannabis) exceptionalist when it comes to my own drug use – and also when assessing the relative benefits and risks of varied psychoactive drugs. But that must not extend to a sense of exceptionalism when it comes to either the core principles or the broader agenda of drug policy reform consciousness and activism. Psychedelics offer great promise in alleviating pain, addiction and other maladies. Psychedelic policy reform provides inspiration and models for enlisting military veterans and building bipartisan coalitions. These advances will mean all the more to the extent they extend to and embrace the broader world of drugs and drug policy reform.

Designing a post-prohibition future
The harms of drug prohibition have been manifold, from the trauma of incarceration to the prevention of research. Join us to hear from our movement’s most dynamic thinkers as they imagine and conjure a visionary approach to the paradigm we are building together.
