Trauma and psychedelic-assisted therapy
Dr. Barbara Rothbaum has been researching and delivering evidence-based treatment (EBT) for PTSD since 1986. In this talk, she will enumerate the advantages of combining MDMA with prolonged exposure therapy (PE) for PTSD. PE is a well-studied, effective, well disseminated EBT with many PE trainers worldwide. PE is recommended as a first-line treatment in every published treatment guideline for PTSD. There is theoretical support for a synergistic mechanism of action for adding MDMA to PE. Translational research supports that MDMA facilitates the extinction of fear in a rodent model. In a healthy human model, more extinction recall responders were in the MDMA condition.
