Psilocybin Treatment of Tobacco Addiction: From a Wing and a Prayer to Federally Funded Psychedelic Therapy Research
Speakers
This talk will describe a 16 year journey -- a line of research investigating psilocybin as a medicine to help people overcome treatment-resistant addiction to tobacco cigarette smoking. This will include an initial, small, open-label pilot study; a nearly complete comparative efficacy study randomizing people to either psilocybin treatment or a nicotine patch treatment; and the plans for a forthcoming/ongoing multi-site, double-blind placebo-controlled, clinical trial funded by the United States National Institute on Drug Abuse.
