Conservation and justice of peyote in the Americas
Peyote has been used by native peoples of the Americans as a sacrament for centuries, and organized activism to protect this tradition in the United States goes back over a century, yielding a string of legislative and judicial protections throughout the 20th century. However, the recent rise in popularity of psychedelics and overzealous reform efforts, combined with ongoing ecological and overdevelopment crises, has put the sustainability of the peyote cacti in jeopardy. This session will discuss what is needed to legally and environmentally protect these traditions and medicines for generations to come.
